5:2 Diet Day 1:
2 poached eggs and asparagus
Chicken tom yum soup
5:2 Diet Day 2:
Sadly my creativity didn’t stretch beyond making the exact same meals. Apparently I was too lazy to consider how uninteresting that might be for a reader of the review (it was quite tasty though).
The Tom Yum was a particular strategic triumph for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is genuinely tasty. Not many low calorie meals really are, so we’re on solid ground with this dish right from the off. Furthermore, by absolutely pulverising it with chillies I managed to make it a real challenge to finish it. That kind of struggle usually only comes with the territory of over indulgence, so to replicate that feeling without the calories was nothing short of accidental genius. Upon finishing, I collapsed, convinced of the knowledge that I certainly did not want to eat any more.
On the whole I probably ate better food than I would do normally. I certainly ate more fish. However there were some real low lights, and the weekend was somewhat debaucherous (spell-check tells me that isn’t a word, but if it isn’t then it should be, so I am leaving it in there).
Nothing. Nada. I had grand plans to go for a run in between the 2 fast days. It didn’t happen. I’m fairly sure I had some really good reasons as to why I didn’t end up going, but they escape me now.
Cod and chips
Mayonnaise-based salads of deliciousness
Many, many, many beers and other assorted beverages of a sinful nature
The Net Result:
I lost 3 pounds.
In truth it was quite straight forward. It certainly wasn’t a shock to the system and to knock a few pounds off in a week is encouraging, especially as it didn’t feel like any particular hardship. I don’t really feel all that different. I’m not going to preach about jumping out of bed in the mornings because I feel so much better from eating slightly healthier. I’m certainly not worried about whether I can manage another few weeks of this though. Generally quite pleased with progress so far and looking forward to seeing how things go from here. I’m sure you’re as excited as I am to read the review of week two of 5:2 dieting.
